One of Australia’s top Cabernets and known as the Cabernet equivalent of the world famous Penfolds Grange. This is Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon and it’s one of the world class reds that wine collectors around the globe scramble to get their hands on upon release!
First produced in 1964 with Penfolds legend Max Schubert’s dream to produce an Aussie Cabernet that could last in the cellar for 20+ years. During the 1950s and 1960s most Cabernet was being blended – the debut release of the rich and powerful Bin 707 was Penfolds’ first release of a single cabernet-based wine.
Bin 707 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and produced from some of Penfolds’ finest vineyards across South Australia including Coonawarra, Barossa Valley, Padthaway and McLaren Vale, aged for 18 months in 100% new American oak barrels.
This is the latest 2023 vintage release and as expected it’s every bit the world class red we’ve come to expect…
97/100 (James Halliday’s Wine Companion)
“There’s no doubting the pedigree of the Bin 707. First released in 1964, it is one of Australia’s finest cabernets, and the ’23 release is a continuation of its stellar bloodline. Deep crimson with aromas of macerated blackberry, black cherry, blackcurrant, cassis and doris plum fruits with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, blackforest cake and dried herbs. Notes of distant bramble, cedar, licorice and earth. For all its depth and latent power, I like the clarity and detail in this release. The fruit is on-point, pure. The fine-grained tannins, showing heft initially, slowly recess into the fruit, resulting in a wine of elegance, grace and sleekness of shape. One for the cellar – if you can keep your hands off it.”
97/100 & Top Rank Award (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“Deep, dark colour; powerful cabernet nose, with more black fruits including cassis, blackberry and less obvious oak than we are used to with 707. Just a little mocha in the background. A massive wine, big and brawny, with masses of drying tannins which grip and coat the mouth but leave no astringency or harshness. Packed with flavour: a very impressive cabernet, a modern Bin 707. (McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Barossa Valley) “
