One of the world’s most famous red wines! Produced every year since 1951 when winemaker Max Schubert set out to make an Aussie red to rival the great Bordeaux reds from France.
Grange is a very powerful, intensely flavoured red that is sought after by collectors across every corner of the globe.
There’s been plenty of hype around this 2016 release of Grange and fully back up with two whopping scores from Aussie wine writers Huon Hooke and James Halliday…
99/100 (James Halliday)
“Penfolds nailed the great vintage, making a wine that is perfect in every way. The blend of 97% shiraz and 3% cabernet sauvignon comes from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Magill Estate in Adelaide, in that order, and as usual spent 18 months in new American hogsheads. Its detail is superb, with light and shade allowing blackberry and plum fruit pride of place, but there’s also flashes of spice and licorice. It’s as mouthwatering with the last taste as the first.”
97/100 & Top Rank (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“Formidable density and persistence, with a touch of elegance – within the Grange paradigm. It’s big and powerful but relatively light on its feet for a Grange. It needs several years before broaching. A superb Grange.”
This vintage is made up of 97% Shiraz and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon with a recommended peak drinking period of between 2023-2050.
