These guys only release their sleek looking Elephant Hill Reserve Syrah when the quality hits the mark. When they say that, they mean it. These guys set the bar pretty high when it comes to quality. That might be something to do with their German owners, Roger and Reydan Weiss, that spare no expense in running this state of the art winery located on the stunning Te Awanga coastline, and boasts one of the finest winery restaurants in NZ!
They’re pretty picky about when they do or don’t release anything under their Reserve label, in their own words “The cooler 2017 vintage has produced a wine of elegance and concentration that will reward cellaring until 2026.”
Produced using grapes from their Gimblett Gravels vineyard, aged for 18 months in oak, this is a dense, concentrated Syrah with serious cellaring potential.
Awarded 5 Stars by two local critics, including Michael Cooper who said “Already delicious, but set for a long life. It is full-coloured, weighty and complex, with concentrated, plummy, spicy flavours, supple tannins and a very harmonious, lasting finish. A very ‘complete’ wine.”
Such is the demand for this wine Elephant Hill have to dish it out on allocation – limited release, highly sought after, secure your stash of this very special red now!
