What a scorcher! Solanera means ‘scorching sunshine’ but we’re talking about what’s in the bottle.

Castano Solanera is a blend of 70% Monastrell, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Garnacha Tintorera from 30 year old old bush vines some 750ml above sea level and aged 10 months in oak. It’s a full throttle, full flavoured red with dark fruits, vanilla, game and spice flavours.

This 2021 vintage took out an impressive Double Gold medal at the NZ International Wine Show – meaning every senior judge awarded it a Gold medal score!

Produced by the Castano family in the south-east of Spain in a region called Yecla. This is the home of great Spanish Monastrell (also called Mourvedre in France and Mataro in Aussie). With hot summers, long cold winters and long periods of drought – most grapes wouldn’t stand a chance. But in this environment Monastrell brings its A-game!

Pair with red meats, roast lamb and veggies and strong/hard cheeses.
