The Batch is back and boy are we giddy with excitement! It’s the fifth edition of the exciting Batch series and if you were lucky enough to hook into the first four releases over the years you’ll know that hiding behind this label is some seriously, SERIOUSLY good Aussie Shiraz.

As with all of the Batch releases the true identity of the winemaker, the vineyards and the brand must be kept under wraps. What we can tell you is due to a surplus of some high quality fruit there was a volume of premium Clare Valley and Barossa fruit that needed to find a new home. Under its original label this wine retails for NZD$45 per bottle – it’s now here in NZ at a seriously discounted rate.

Batch No.5 Old Vine Shiraz comes from two of Australia’s most iconic regions for Shiraz – the Clare Valley and the Barossa Valley. There’s a hell of a lot of wine here for the money…

* Shiraz fruit sourced from two premium old vine vineyards
* 85% old vine fruit from a block in the southern Clare Valley, average vine age 55 years old
* 15% old vine fruit from the western side of the Barossa Valley
* From a Barossa Champion and multi-award winning winemaker
* Aged between 12-18 months in older French and American oak barrels
* Regular pump overs in the winery to maximise colour, flavour and tannin extraction
* From a 2020 vintage of exceptional quality
* Under its original label this retails for NZD$45

If you’re into big, rich, full bodied Aussie reds with lashings of plush, ripe dark fruit you should be all over this, it’s yet another Batch blockbuster. Drinking superbly right now with three years bottle aged under its belt but a Shiraz with fruit of this quality will comfortably cellar for a decade from vintage.

If we’ve learnt one thing from the previous four Batch releases is this is the kind of wine that punters grab a case of and then come back for two more. And then when it’s sold through we spend the rest of the year fielding calls asking if there’s any more! This ain’t gonna be any different!
