San Marzano was founded in 1962 by 19 local grape growers in the Puglia region of Italy and 34 years later in 1996 the group went from a co-operative of grape growers and winemakers to buying their very own bottling plant.
The word “Talo” on the label (pronounced TAH-loh) is a phrase used by the San Marzano crew as a dedication and a collective thank you to the local farmers and growers of the Puglia region who tend to their vineyards with meticulous attention to detail.
This is their “Talo” Negroamaro produced from grapes in the Salento hills of Puglia some 100 metres above sea level. And in their own words is “A full-bodied wine, soft and balanced, long and pleasantly flavoured in the end…with black-currant and wild fruit scent, spicy, with balsamic and vanilla notes.”
