San Marzano Naca Organic Primitivo

San Marzano was founded in 1962 by 19 local grape growers in the Puglia region of Italy and 34 years later in 1996 the group went from a co-operative of grape growers and winemakers to buying their very own bottling plant.

The word “Naca” on the label (pronounced NAH-kah) is a religious phrase in Southern Italy which means ‘cradle’ and often refers to a cradle-shaped structure that holds the statue of a dead Jesus during Good Friday Easter processions. Although on this wine label it looks a lot like someone lounging in a hammock holding a book! Perhaps in the other hand they ought to be cradling a glass of the very yummy San Marzano Organic Primitivo.

This is their San Marzano Naca Organic Primitivo produced from organically and biodynamically grown Primitivo grapes in the Salento hills of Puglia some 100 metres above sea level. Not only is it banging value for money for an organic Italian Primitivo – but it tastes bloody awesome too! A lovely dry and savoury style with those typical dark fruits and spice.

And in their own words is “Rich bouquet of mature fruit, cherries and plums, with notes of coffee and black pepper. A full-bodied wine, soft and balanced, with a pleasantly lingering aftertaste.”
