This is on the money! Well, actually the money’s on the bottle. This is Patria Chica Vino De Pago and its not just the label that’s award winning – the wine’s pretty bloody good too!
The project of Patria Chica wasn’t just about producing a seriously good red to showcase the winery and region (Aragon in north-east Spain by the way) but to pay tribute to their farming and rural history. Featuring an old farmer with his hoe (by that we mean his farming tool) and a bank note (remember when real money was a thing?) printed on textured Materica Limestone paper with holographic and watermark effects.
There was just as much attention to the detail in the winemaking as there was the brand and label design too. Patria Chica Vino De Pago is an organic blend of tempranillo, garnacha, merlot and cabernet this is sure to spin the wheels of those that love their reds full bodied and loaded to the gunnels with flavour.
This latest 2023 vintage of Patria Chica Vino De Pago has got the thumbs up from critics both here and overseas…

90/100 (James Suckling)
“Juicy and really balanced, with a medium to full body and well-grained tannins that are coming from the fruit and the barrels.”
Wines labelled Vino de Pago sit in the highest quality tier of Spanish wine, they’re single vineyard wines and to date only 20 Spanish wineries can boast having the “Denomination de Pago” status. Drink now to cellar until 7-8 years from vintage.
