Main Divide Pinot Noir is made by the Pegasus Bay crew – a primo Waipara producer with international recognition for their classy line up of wines.
This is the little brother to their Pegasus Bay label. Just quietly we reckon it’s punching well above its weight for the money! Main Divide is the name given to the mighty Southern Alp range, nicknamed the “backbone of the South Island” by some southerners.
Crafted in a Burgundian, dark fruited and smoky style Pinot Noir, aged for 18 months in French oak (20% being expensive new oak) – certainly the specs of a Pinot worth a lot more!
Scoring 4 Stars in the NZ Listener with Michael Cooper who said “This attractive, floral red is not labelled “North Canterbury”, because more than 15% of the grapes were grown outside the sub-region. Matured for 18 months in French oak barriques, it is strongly varietal, with delicate cherry, plum, spice and nutty oak flavours showing good complexity, and a very harmonious, well-rounded finish. “
This is the style of Canterbury Pinot to serve with a nice cut of Canterbury lamb!
