A 95-point Shiraz that’s rarer than Hen’s Teeth and well priced for the quality under $25. The first shipment into NZ sold out before it even hit the docks – so we had to be quick this time around! This is a wine that started life on shelves across the ditch at AUD$40 per bottle (that’s almost NZD$50!) so put all that together you can see why we reckon you ought to sink your teeth into it while you can.
Made by Longview in the Adelaide Hills sub region of South Australia, a slightly cooler part of Australia that can produce outstanding Shiraz with those typical bright red and blue berry fruit flavours and a distinct peppery spice.
Scoring 95/100 with NZ critic Sam Kim who said “This is gorgeously fruited with complexity, presenting dark plum, raspberry, smoked game, baking spice, and toasted almond notes on the nose. It’s equally satisfying in the mouth with succulent fruit intensity and fleshy texture, wonderfully framed by refreshing acidity and fine-grained tannins, finishing persistent and stylish. At its best: now to 2037.”
Meanwhile top Aussie critic Campbell Mattinson rated it 94/100 and said “This isn’t a heavy or especially deep wine but it’s charming, complex, expertly crafted and beautiful to drink.”
As the Longview crew describe it very simply – “Black Berries. Pink Peppercorn. Spicy. Juicy. Luscious. Perfect pairing—Beef Ragu with Pappardelle.”
