JAW. DROPPER. One of the white wine bargain buys of the year so far, and we don’t throw that title out there lightly! Five Star rated Central Otago Riesling crafted to sell at $20 – now slashed to $9.99 (in exchange for us nabbing every last box they had!).

This is a banging value for money, medium-dry, succulent Central Otago Riesling! A label refresh means this premium Otago producer has slashed stocks of their 5 Star, 93/100 rated Central Riesling called “Alex K” – and boy are you in for a treat with this one. It was originally crafted to sell at the $20 mark, more recently we’d had it for $15 on special, and now in exchange for clearing them out we’re able to get it at this absolute stunning price.

This 2016 vintage is a beauty for the money and got the big thumbs up from local critic Sam Kim, who reviewed it at the end of 2019…

    5 Stars, 93/100 (Sam Kim)
“Gorgeously ripe and inviting, the bouquet shows golden peach, mango and lemon peel characters with subtle notes of honey and spice. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity and rounded mouthfeel, backed by elegant sweetness and bright acidity, finishing long and refreshing. Style: Medium-dry. At its best: now to 2022.”

Kalex are a premium Central Otago producer founded by Alex Kaufman, a Polish American businessman, entrepreneur and holocaust survivor. He arrived in the US with nothing but the clothes on his back and a quarter in his shoe. His later success in business and love for wine lead him to NZ and specifically Central Otago, where he started the Kalex label.

At a slightly lower alcohol of just 10% this makes a great anytime tipple. It’s already got 4 years under its belt and while Sam reckons you can drink it up to 2022, Riesling is well known for its awesome cellaring potential. We wouldn’t be surprised to see it go longer than that. But heck, a delicious white at this silly low price probably isn’t going to last in anyone’s cellar!
