“Riesling is Our Obsession. We make nothing else.”
Focus on one thing and do it bloody well. Pewsey Vale are undisputed kings of Riesling in the Aussie wine scene and they’ve been making world class Riesling since 1847. It’s fair to say they know their stuff!
It certainly helps when you’re producing wine in a very special site though. The Pewsey Vale vineyard sits 250 metres above the Barossa Valley floor. Here, the cooler temperatures help a longer ripening period and that’s key for making wicked Riesling.
This latest 2025 vintage has backed up its claim as a world class, dry style Riesling with a stunning 97/100 and Best In Show Award and is now recognised as one of the “50 Best Wines in the World” from the world’s largest and most influential wine competitions – the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards in London.
Winning Best In Show with a 97/100 rating which is an absolutely incredible achievement! Winning Best In Show at the DWWA is no easy road that’s for sure. After joining over 18,000 other wines they are then awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze – the rest are shown the door! Then the best of the best go toe-to-toe to determine the Platinum award winners. THEN, the Platinum award winners go to head-to-head to discover the overall Best In Show winners, the top 50 wines from the entire competition.
Or let’s put it another way – top 50 from over 18,000 is just 0.002% of all wines entered got a Best In Show Award!
The judges at the DWWA in London had this to say. “This wine marks another debut appearance in our Best In Show selection – for Eden Valley Riesling, though we’ve featured Eden Valley Shiraz/Syrah here in the past. It’s a young wine and light on its feet (just 11.5%). Riesling here manages, remarkably enough, to deliver full-season fruit complexities at this strength since phenolic ripeness continues, in the High Eden’s skeletal soils, even after sugar ripeness has slowed, including in very warm vintages like that of 2025. It’s an enticingly aromatic wine with a tumble of blossom blowing about an aromatic core of zesty lemon, lime, fresh dessert apple and early season nectarine. On the palate, the wine is bright and tangy with racy apple and rhubarb acidity; it has ample mid-palate wealth and poised texture, then the blossoms come blowing back to lift its brisk, mouth-freshening finish. Its Eden Valley pedigree suggests that this beautifully vinified wine will age well, too.”
Demand is through the roof both here and across the ditch and around the world. We’ve grabbed what we could, when we could. Get your A into G and secure your piece of this world class Riesling that will comfortably cellar for a decade or longer.
