Choo Choo – all aboard! That’s how Ciù Ciù is pronounced and is a nod to the owner’s Grandfather who used to be a signalman on the local railways – an important transport link shipping people…and wine!
And in a clever twist Ciù Ciù is also local dialect for ‘Drink! Drink!’ – which is exactly what you’ll be wanting to do after the first sip of this juicy, savoury, medium bodied red from Piceno in the Marche region on Italy’s eastern coast. As the world famous wine critic Jancis Robinson says “The Marche on Italy’s Adriatic coast is better than most regions at offering Italian value, balance and personality in both reds and whites.”
In fact just a few years ago this Bacchus label was recognised by the influential US magazine Forbes as one of the “10 Best European Red Wines Under $20” – they said “Strange name, I know, but emphatically a food-friendly delight. It’s all black cherry crispness rounded off with dark chocolate, licorice, cloves and hints of black pepper.”
Ciu Ciu Oris is an organically produced blend of Montepulciano (“mon-ta-pull-cheeanno”) and Sangiovese (“san-joh-vay-say“) grapes.
A classically Italian red to pair with an Italian feed – tomato-based pastas like spaghetti or lasagna, margherita pizza, bruschetta, a meaty bolognese, mushroom risotto or roasted aubergine dishes.
