The word “Padthaway” is an Aboriginal word for “good water”. The Aborigines probably didn’t know about wine when they named it, if they’d known what this region was capable of we’re sure they would’ve named it “good wine”.

The Browns family have been grape growing in the region for decades, supplying premium fruit to larger Australian wine companies. It wasn’t until 1995 the Browns began to realise the potential of its own estate labelled wines and today the fifth generation continue to carry on the family tradition.

They’re one of the few smaller private family labels in Padthaway surrounded by some of the big boys like Fosters, Orlando Wyndham and BRL Hardys. But they haven’t gone unnoticed. In Decanter magazine’s 21st Century edition Browns of Padthaway was labelled as one of the “21 Hottest Wineries to Watch”.

Big, up front, rich concentrated plummy black fruit flavours, luscious and full flavoured. Perfect with those hearty red meat dishes or your favourite strong cheese.

    The Lowdown: 15% alc / 750ml / Screwcap
