Sileni Estate was born in 1997 and co-founded by Kiwi businessman, philanthropist (and wine lover!) and official Hawke’s Bay legend Sir Graeme Avery. Named after the Sileni that features in Greek mythology who followed Dionysus, the God of Wine. They celebrated good wine, good food and good company. Now we’re talkin’.
To celebrate their 25th vintage Sileni jazzed up their labels and released their new “Grand Reserve” range using some of their best fruit from specific sites and sub regions in Hawke’s Bay and beyond.
Right, let’s cut straight to the chase on the Straits shall we? It’s named after the Cook Strait – that bit of water between the North and South Islands where the ferries always break down and occasionally nearly crash. It’s made by Sileni and it’s got a selection of Sileni’s best parcels of SauvyB fruit from the Awatere and Wairau Valleys in Marlborough.
This is their 2025 release and it’s won Gold at the NZ International Wine Show as well as an impressive 5 Stars & Best Buy Award in Cuisine’s annual SauvyB tasting. It was also ranked No.4 best NZ Sauvignon overall!
The judges at Cuisine said “The palate is bright and clean, with rich tropical and citrus fruit flavours that travel the length of the wine. Generously weighted, with a long, zesty finish.”
Drink it now to 2029 and match it with your favourite summer seafood and salad dishes.
