It’s 007-vino with Marlborough’s Spy Valley. Named after the neighbouring Waihopai spy bases (those two big golf ball shaped buildings) and when the secret agents have finished a hard day’s work keeping an eye on the bad guys they love nothing more than a glass of Pinot Noir grown right on their doorstep.
Central Otago often grabs the headlines when it comes to Kiwi Pinot but, take it from us, Marlborough’s the spot to go when you’re comparing quality dollar for dollar and the Spy Valley Pinot Noir is no different.
Using fruit from two of their Southern Valley vineyards, in the Waihopai and Omaka Valleys this is a cracking Pinot for a snip under $30. The Spy crew reckon you can expect “Red cherry and spice, slightly earthy with a toasty character coming through from the oak.”
