Ten years ago we debuted the release of the jaw dropping value for money Batch label and a decade later we’re super pumped to present the exciting sixth Batch release.

This is the Batch No.6 Old Vine Barossa Valley Shiraz from the excellent 2022 vintage and if you were lucky enough to hook into any of the first five releases you’ll know that hiding behind this label is some seriously, SERIOUSLY good Aussie Shiraz.

As with all of the Batch releases the true identity of the winemaker, the vineyards and the brand must be kept under wraps. What we can tell you is due to a surplus of some high quality fruit there was a small volume of premium, old vine, single vineyard Barossa Valley fruit that needed to find a new home. If this barrel selection were to be sold under the winery’s existing labels the retail value would be somewhere between NZD$55-90 per bottle.

It’s fair to say there’s a hell of a lot of wine here for the money…

* Shiraz fruit sourced from a 5 Star rated James Halliday winery
* From a 2022 vintage of exceptional quality (rated 9/10 by James Halliday’s Wine Companion)
* Premium old vine single vineyard Shiraz from a steep hillside single vineyard planted in the late 80’s with higher altitude and a slightly cooler climate
* Aged between 18-24 months in a mix of new (20%) and seasoned oak barrels
* Regular pump overs in the winery to maximise colour, flavour and tannin extraction
* Made by an award-winning winemaker, a 20-vintage veteran across South Australia’s sub-regions
* If this barrel selection was sold under the winery’s existing labels retail value would sit between NZD$55-90 per bottle
* Very limited – just 12 barrels selected

If you’re into big, full bodied Aussie reds with lashings of plush, ripe dark berry fruits and oak spice you should be all over this, it’s yet another Batch blockbuster. Drinking superbly right now with three years bottle aged under its belt but a Shiraz with fruit of this quality will comfortably cellar for a decade from vintage.

If we’ve learnt one thing from the previous four Batch releases is this is the kind of wine that punters grab a case of and then come back for two more. And then when it’s sold through we spend the rest of the year fielding calls asking if there’s any more! This ain’t gonna be any different!
