When Qantas approached Wolf (aka Wolfgang Franz Otto Blass) back in 1985 and asked for an exclusive label for their Business and First Class customers he went away and crafted some seriously smart Riesling – he named it Gold ‘cos he knows that you’ve got to have bling to fly first class and slurp top notch wine at high altitude.
Or maybe he called it Gold because he liked to keep it simple and colour code all of the wines in his range, which might have something to do with him leaving school at the age of 15!
In any case we can’t remember the last time this Gold label Barossa Shiraz didn’t actually win a Gold – and to prove a point this 2016 has not one, but three Golds to go with its three Trophies including “Best 2014 Shiraz” at the Barossa Wine Show 2016! Check out the list below:
Trophy “Best 2014 Shiraz” – Barossa Wine Show (2016)
Trophy “Most Outstanding Barossa Wine” – Barossa Wine Show (2016)
Trophy “Most Outstanding Barossa Red Wine” – Barossa Wine Show (2016)
Gold medal – Barossa Wine Show (2016)
Gold medal – NZ Int’l Wine Show (2016)
Gold medal – San Francisco Int’l Wine Comp (2016)
This is your typical big, bold and lush style Barossa red – lip smackingly delicious stuff from a label that never fails to disappoint.
The guys at Wolf Blass recommended pairing with seared Kangaroo fillet or sizzling Mongolian lamb. We reckon a good lump of roast beef or lamb will do the trick! Drink now or cellar over the next 4-5 years.
