Vino Pellegrino is the wine project of one Mr Kenny Pellegrino – a Danishman with Italian roots and a passion for finding great value Italian wines from Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna and Puglia.
This is Vino Pellegrino’s Casa Ponte Primitivo behind a label that couldn’t look more Italian if it tried. Primitivo (called Zinfandel in some parts of the wine world) is fast growing in popularity around the world and if you’re new to it – this Gold medal winner coming in at just $17.99 is a great place to start!
This is Primitivo from the home of Primitivo – the lush countryside region of Apulia in Puglia which if you look on a map is the south eastern part that looks like the heel of Italy’s boot. It’s actually one of the oldest wine growing regions in the world.
A Gold medal winner at the Gilbert & Guillard International Wine Competiton – the judges said “Delightful vibrant red colour. Youthful nose combining floral and red fruit notes. The palate offers the same youthful aromas supported by a pleasant structure. A delicious wine to enjoy for its youthful fruitiness”.
Here’s a fun Primitivo fact – the name Primitivo comes from the Latin word “primativus” and the old Italian word “primaticcio,” which mean “early ripener” or “first to ripen.” Pair it with red meats, mature cheeses and hearty pasta dishes.
