“Gewurz” literally means “spice” in German and if you’re looking for the right wine for that spicy Asian cuisine this weekend you’re in the right place!
Villa Maria are no strangers to the winners podium – in fact they spend just as much time up on those stages at wine award shows as they do making the wine! They’re NZ’s most awarded winery but to see their entry level “Private Bin” labels like this one winning Gold at major NZ wine shows is bloody good going.
Villa have got vineyards dotted all over the show and in crafting this Gewurztraminer they’ve sourced grapes from Gisborne and Marlborough. Featured in Michael Cooper’s regular wine column for the NZ Listener, Cooper gave it 3.5/5 Stars and said “Invitingly perfumed, this mouthfilling wine has lots of drink-young charm. A medium-dry style, it has good depth of vibrant peach, pear, lychee and spice flavours, gentle acidity and a well-rounded finish. (13% alc/vol) $15-$16”
