Anthony Joseph Vidal was just 22 years young when he jumped off the ship from Spain way back in 1888. After purchasing a small section in Hawke’s Bay in 1905 he converted the stables that occupied the land into a wine cellar and hey presto – Vidal Estate was born!
This latest 2025 release scored 4 Stars with Michael Cooper in his regular NZ Listener column, he said “This good-value wine was grown in the Wairau and Awatere valleys and aged on its yeast lees before bottling. Fresh, vibrant and punchy, it is medium-bodied, with incisive melon and green capsicum-evoking flavours, crisp, dry and lingering. $17”
This is the classic Marlborough Sauvy style – crisp and full of vibrant tropical fruit flavours. From a winery with a long history of amazing food and wine (they opened NZ’s first winery restaurant back in 1979). We recommend pairing it with fresh fish and seafood dishes.

Damn, you're looking young for your age!
