Two Hands Angels Share Shiraz

2023, McLaren Vale Australia
  • The Angel's share is the small amount evaporated from the oak barrels (not thieving Angels like they used to believe!)
  • 90/100 (Stuart Knox, The Real Review) - "Palate is big and dense, ripe mulberry balanced by anise and vanilla spices"
  • 91/100 (James Halliday's Wine Companion) - "In the house style, this is flavourful and fruit rich"
  • Medium to full bodied McLaren Vale Shiraz
  • Drink now but this will cellar well for 10-15 years!

When small amounts of wine disappeared from their oak barrels medieval winemakers just assumed it was angels from above taking their cut. It was about the same time everyone thought the world was flat – science wasn’t a strong topic back in the middle ages!

That small amount wasn’t anything to do with thieving angels, it was evaporation from the oak barrels during the maturation process (which is why it’s known as the “Angel’s share”).

It’s a medium to full bodied McLaren Vale Shiraz with loads of rich, concentrated dark fruit flavours and a touch of spice. Good to go now but this has plenty of potential for cellaring for another 10-15 years!
