Gamay Noir is like Pinot Noir’s little sister. Traditionally French (there she goes by the name of Beaujolais) but you’ll find a few sneaky plantings of it here in NZ, like Te Mata Estate Gamay Noir in Hawke’s Bay.
It’s fair to say that Gamay is a fun, fruit bomb, juicy style of a red that should never to be taken too seriously and in fact we’d recommend giving it a light chill in the fridge before serving too.
Te Mata Estate Gamay Noir is refreshingly light, juicy, easy drinking and goes hand in hand with a stinking hot summers day. Bursting with candy-like cherry and raspberry flavours – heck don’t even bother waiting for summer to roll around again!
This is the latest 2026 release of Te Mata Estate Gamay Noir – and in the words of the Te Mata crew “Gamay Noir ‘26 finishes long, fresh, and quietly irresistible – leaving a trace of red berries, spice, and a lingering signature line of dry, clean, bright fruit.”
Here’s a little tip – drink it within two years, serve it lightly chilled and service it with spicy cuisine for the ideal Gamay wine and food match.
