Sangiovese (san-joh-vay-say) is Italy’s most famous and planted variety with over a whopping 55,000 hectares. Best known as the Tuscan wine such as Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino – there are serious bargains to be found outside of that region if you know what you’re looking for.
The rolling hillside vineyards of Emilia-Romagna in the heart of Italy is one of those areas. Produced by Tenuta Santodeno who’ve been making wine in those rolling hills of Romagna since 1929.
Produced using the ancient winemaking technique of drying grapes after harvest for 60 days until each grape is died out, called ‘appassimento’. Appassimento wines are full bodied, deep and rich in colour, powerful and warming with a variety of intense fruit flavours, aromas and spice.
A rich, full bodied Italian red jam packed with dark cherry, berry and spice flavours, soft tannins and a smooth finish. Packaged under natural cork with a fancy wax seal finish!
