Opawa means ‘Smoky River’ in Maori with the Opawa vineyard planted on the historic riverbed of the Opawa river. Being an old riverbed the arid and stony soil means those grapevines have to work their arses off to find water and nutrients deep in the soil. The result? Grapes full of intense flavour and complexity.
This is banging value for money Marlborough Pinot Gris made in an off-dry style – lush peach, pear and stonefruit and spice flavours with a long, dry finish. A killer wine to pair to spicy Asian cuisine.
