One of the most incredible, jaw dropping winery clearance deals you’re likely to see in 2025! Obliix is the recently launched wine brand of Villa Maria founder Sir George Fistonich but in a sign of bloody tough international and domestic economic conditions the Fistonich team have made the tough call to cull final stocks of their award winning Rosé at an utterly bonkers price of $9.99.
Mark our words. This was NOT a wine made to sell anywhere near the $10 price point, but here we are. Initially launched into the market in the $20-25 price bracket extremely tough market conditions mean this 92/100 rated, Top Value Award winning Rosé of good quality is being flogged at a rock bottom $9.99.
This wine featured in Michael Cooper’s “The best rosé wines for a summer weekend” column in the NZ Listener in February 2025. Cooper said “Aromatic, fresh, crisp and lively, this bright light-pink wine is a 2:1 blend of Marlborough pinot noir and Hawke’s Bay syrah. It has strong peach, strawberry and spice flavours, a sliver of sweetness and appetising acidity.”
This really is an absolute no brainer. Using two thirds Pinot Noir fruit from their Ballochdale Vineyard in Marlborough’s Awatere Valley and a third of the blend being Hawke’s Bay Syrah. A crisp, dry style full of juicy strawberry and red fruit flavours and a slight spiciness that you’ll happily drink now to the end of 2026.
Being a Pinot Noir/Syrah Rosé blend the wine has a deep salmon colour and makes a great Rosé to pair with a feed. The Fistonich crew reckon to pair it with “cold meats or a cheese platter on a sunny afternoon“.
