“Wine for good times” is what Misty Cove’s all about – in the company of good friends, family and maybe the odd stranger. A no-borgeous BS approach to wine. Launched in 2008 the Misty Cove wine brand has tried to flip the script on what a wine brand can look like, while crafted seriously good value, award winning Marlborough wines – and keeping it fresh by experimenting with unusual varieties and unique blends.
This is Misty’s Cove’s Albarino – pronounced al-bar-een-yoh. Best know as a variety from the coastal climates of Spain and Portugal this is Misty Cove’s take on this style.
And while they’re all about Marlborough and Marlborough wine they’ve gone to good old Gizzy to source grapes for their Albarino. And specifically a famous vineyard owned by Doug Bell, home to New Zealand’s oldest Albariño vines.
Featured in Michael Cooper’s NZ Listener article, Coops said “A good alternative to sauvignon blanc, this strongly varietal wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and acacia puncheons. Mouthfilling, vibrant and zingy, it has good intensity of citrusy, slightly appley flavours, a sliver of sweetness and invigorating acidity.”
A crisp and aromatic style white with lush, creamy stonefruit flavours that pairs best with fresh fish, seafood and vegetarian dishes.
