Mills Reef Elspeth Cabernet Merlot

Mills Reef’s flagship range – Elspeth (named after the winemaker’s Grandmother, Elspeth Preston) sits right up there with Hawke’s Bay’s wine elite. If it’s Elspeth slapped on the label you know you’ve got one classy little number in your hot little hands!

Hand picked fruit from their Mere Road vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels and only released under the Elspeth label when the Mills Reef crew feel the quality is top notch. There would have been no doubt at all that Elspeth would be released in 2020, another solid vintage in Hawke’s Bay!

Aged for 20 months in 35% new, expensive French oak barrels – the result is a stunning bottle of Bordeaux style red! Winemaker Paul had this to say “Full bodied, it bursts with notes of black fruit, blueberry,
plum, chocolate, and cassis on a bed of lovely, refined tannins. Ageing in quality French oak has yielded a distinguished silky-smooth wine.”

Drink now or chuck some in the cellar until around 2032.
