Man O’ War Lunatics Syrah

It’s sheer madness, it’s insanity, there’s a Lunatic on the loose! This must be one of the most jaw dropping red deals we’ve seen so far this year. Premium label Syrah made by the world class Man O’ War on Waiheke Island, usually sitting around the $40 mark and now slashed by almost 40% down to $24.99. Like we said, absolutely mad!

With Covid-19 hammering export sales as well as restaurant and bar trade here in NZ the guys at Man O’ War have been left with little choice but to get serious on price with their classy “Lunatics” Syrah. Made from a single steep hillside vineyard (the Lunatic vineyard) and aged 15 months in French oak.

This is one seriously, seriously classy Syrah for the money. These guys really excel with the French style Bordeaux and Syrah varieties and this is the prime example. As winemaker Duncan calls it, “A unique expression of Syrah and site; Lunatics exhibits intense floral aromas of cherry, warm slate and dusty herbs with Provencal herbs. The palate is elegant with ripe fruit, silky tannins and a lingering finish.”

Get into this while you can. Buy some, drink some, gift some, cellar some. This should be good to be tucked until 2026.
