Now, this is a story all about how my wine got flipped-turned upside down co-fermented with Viognier
And I’d like to take a minute 11 months in oak
To sit right there I’ll tell you how I became the prince demi god
Of a town Syrah called Bel Air Bellerephon
With a Syrah already in their armoury (called Dreadnought) the Man O’ War crew decided to add a second to its ranks. So what’s the difference you ask? Well for starters they’ve added a splash of the white grape Viognier.
Bob Campbell calls it “Richer, sweet, spicier and more perfumed than the Dreadnought” while Michael Cooper reckons it’s “more feminine, savoury, funky.”
Produced from the steep, volcanic hillside vineyards on the eastern end of Waiheke Island. Bellerophon (pronounced (beh-LAIR-uh-fon) is named after the Greek demi-god who rode on an immortal winged horse. It’s another master stroke by these guys, best drinking 2017 onwards and up to 2024.
