Longview Yakka Shiraz

There’s nothing quite like a glass of Yakka after a hard day’s Yakka.

Made by the crew at Longview in the cool climate wine region of the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. For the money, this is a great medium weight Aussie Shiraz from a cracking 2022 vintage (rated 9/10 by James Halliday’s Wine Companion) boasting not one, not two but THREE Gold medals to its name.

They’ve done all the hard work (Yakka) and specifically selected top Shiraz fruit from five specific blocks on their estate. The Yakka is also a native Aussie plan that can grow in extremely harsh conditions and much like the plant these grapes have to handle the vineyard’s tough, rocky soils and at times harsh climate.

A Gold medal winner at the Royal Queensland Wine Show and the Adelaide Hill Wine Show two years running in both 2023 and 2024. It also scored 90/100 in James Halliday’s Wine Companion who said “It’s flavoursome, it’s heady in perfume, it drives with concentrated fruit characters…It delivers on a promise of shiraz at medium weight and shows some pizzazz.”

Enjoy the Yakka now but long term cellaring will be rewarded – try 10 years from vintage.
