La Vieille Ferme Rouge

La Vieille Ferme Rouge – aka ‘The Old Farm’ – is the house red of top Rhone Valley producer Famille Perrin. They’re famous for Château de Beaucastel, a family-owned biodynamic wine estate located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and they’ve also worked with Hollywood star Brad Pitt on his Miraval Rosé label.

Or if the name, winery and estate is all a bit much to pronounce and remember just go with what most wine drinkers around the world call it – “the chicken wine”. Why? Well, because it’s got a picture of a chicken on the front and that’s much easier to remember!

Already a super popular label in UK supermarkets and wine shops – a few years ago “the chicken wine” went viral on social media with wine guzzlers up and down the country posting photos online of their chicken wine at summer BBQs, in back gardens and at summer soirées!

Scoring 4 Stars in Cuisine magazine’s 2026 annual “NZ & International Other Reds” tasting – the judges said “Well coloured for a carignan with a slight fade appearing at the rim. Clean and bright fruited with dried herbs sitting alongside sweet spice on the nose and palate. Juicy yet savoury with very well-managed tannins and a decent finish.”
