La Piuma Chianti DOCG

In any case you’ll be blown away by yet another super European wine bargain brought to NZ’s shores by Master of Wine Steve Bennett. The wine is made by MGM – no, not the Hollywood movie producer but Mondo del Vino. They’re a world renowned wine company of almost 30 years and the first in Europe to embrace the EU green policy, they’re previous winners of No.1 European Wine Producer at one of the largest wine award shows in Europe, the Mundus Vini Awards.

Pronounced “key-an-tee” – strict Italian wine laws mean grapes must be sourced entirely from one of the 8 Chianti regions in Tuscany and must be made with least 75% of the Sangiovese grape. Deciphering Italian wine labels can be a mission, which is why they have a handy three-tier system of quality. DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) is at the top so you know it’s the good stuff!

If you’re new to the world of wines from Tuscany and Chianti this is a great place to start. It’s a medium bodied, soft and juicy style red with cherry and plum fruit flavours. Made in a really easy drinking style and a great red to pair with spaghetti and meatballs, full flavoured pizzas or cold cuts like salami!
