It’s big, it’s badass and it’s so buttery you could pour it on your toast! The guys at Harken in California miss the days gone by of those big, rich, oaky and over the top style Chardonnays. They reckon it’s crazy that they went out of fashion. So they did something about it and made Harken Barrel Fermented Chardonnay.
Let’s cut to the chase. We’ve wrapped our lips around some so called big, buttery Chardonnays over the years but it’s been a long, long time since we tried a style that took us back to the old school days like this! The 2023 is here and we’re happy to report this latest release is…so, so Harken!
Using ripe, A-grade Californian grapes full of flavour, it’s 100% barrel fermented, 100% malolactic (also called MLF or malo – the fancy winemaking process which gives white wines that creamy, buttery taste), aged 7 months in oak.
Harken Barrel Fermented Chardonnay is a wine that doesn’t pretend to be anything other than itself. Big. Buttery. Melt in your mouth. Got it?
A big, rich style like this is crying out for the right food pairing. How about roast pork or chicken in a rich sauce, a creamy pasta primavera or lobster, scallops with butter and cream.
