Greywacke (yes, it’s pronounced grey-wacky) is the family wine label of the Judds. You’ll find Greywacke HQ in Omaka, Marlborough producing world class Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and other styles from organically farmed sites.

Head of the family is Kevin Judd – an absolute winemaking legend in his own right and pretty handy with a camera too! Kevin has pursued a parallel career as a photographer and has published several books including “The Landscape of New Zealand Wine”, “The Colour of Wine” and (our favourite) “Wine Dogs New Zealand”.

Born in England and raised in Aussie, Judd moved to NZ in 1983 and would later become the founding winemaker of Cloudy Bay and go on to produce the first 25 vintages.

“Keep it simple and hands-on” – that’s the Greywacke way of thinking. Trust us, the wines are anything but simple!

This is their 2018 release Botrytis Pinot Gris and it’s what they like to call “A voluptuous interpretation of pinot gris, with a luscious palate that is laced with dried fruits, dates and wildflower honey.” We say it’s one hell of a delicious sticky!

95/100 (Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review)
“Luscious dessert wine with honey, orange marmalade, anise, liquorice, poached pear and clove spice. Intense, sweet wine with sweetness nicely restrained by a thread of ripe acidity. A delicious sticky”

96/100 (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“An outstanding sweet wine, Alsace late-harvest style, in great condition and promising to be long-lived.”

5 Stars (Michael Cooper)
“Lovely now, the 2018 vintage (5*) was grown in the Brancott Valley and at Renwick, hand-picked when the berries were shrivelled by botrytis (‘noble rot’) , and partly (50 per cent) fermented and matured for a year in old barrels. Golden, with a richly honeyed bouquet, it is weighty and fleshy, with lush, peachy, complex flavours, abundant sweetness (130 grams/litre of residual sugar), balanced acidity and a slightly oily richness. Benchmark stuff.”

Drink now to 2028.
