If you love bloody good Pinot get ready to rock with Daisy Rock – a label that’s caught the eye with the first three vintages picking up FOUR Golds, THREE 5-Star Reviews and a Trophy for Champion Pinot Noir on the domestic wine show circuit. The whole aim of the game here is for the label to deliver some WOW factor for the money – and it won’t disappoint!
Trust us when we say this is a seriously, seriously good Central Otago Pinot for the money that has been made to a Pinot or $60-70 specs!
The true identity of the winemaker and vineyard is kept a secret but what we can say is following on from the highly successful prior vintages the vintner for the Daisy Rock label headed to a single vineyard site on Domain Road in the Bannockburn sub region of Central Otago.
There’s been no corners cut in the making of this one. Using premium parcels of single vineyard Pinot fruit, wild fermented with 15% whole bunch fermentation (a winemaking technique to add complexity, spice, and structure) and aged for 11 months in French oak.
Only 8 barrels were selected for the final selection and it’s fair to say with only 200 dozen produced it’s extremely limited too.
Scoring a whopping 95/100 with local critic Sam Kim who said “It’s splendidly fruited and fragrant on the nose with aromas of dark plum, cherry, olive, toasted almond, and subtle spices. The palate displays succulent fruit intensity, a supple mouthfeel, and well-integrated tannins, making it velvety and rounded with a lengthy, delectable finish. At its best: now to 2029.”
This is a class act, worth every penny and then some and good to go now or cellar carefully for the next 5-10 years. Get into it and tell your mates. This is a beauty.
