If you love bloody good Pinot get ready to rock with Daisy Rock – a label that’s caught the eye with the first two vintages picking up two Golds and a Trophy for Champion Pinot Noir on the domestic wine show circuit. The whole aim of the game here is for the label to deliver some WOW factor for the money – and it won’t disappoint!
Trust us when we say this is a seriously, seriously good Central Otago Pinot for the money that has been made to a Pinot or $60-70 specs!
The true identity of the winemaker and vineyard is kept a secret but what we can say is following on from the highly successful ’21 and ’22 vintages the vintner for the Daisy Rock label headed north to the Bendigo sub region. It’s in this area you typically see bigger, richer and bolder styles of Pinot.
There’s been no corners cut in the making of this one. Using premium parcels of hand-picked, single vineyard Pinot fruit, wild fermented with 30% whole bunch fermentation (a winemaking technique to add complexity, spice, and structure) and aged for 10 months in French oak, 30% being expensive new oak.
Only 4 barrels were selected for the final selection and it’s fair to say with only 100 dozen produced it’s extremely limited too.
Scoring a whopping 95/100 with local critic Sam Kim who said “Superbly fruited and immediately appealing, the fragrant bouquet shows Black Doris plum, blueberry, rich floral, warm spice, and hazelnut aromas. The wonderfully weighted palate exhibits excellent depth and plush texture, wonderfully framed by layers of polished tannins, making it sturdy yet velvety with a prolonged, satisfying finish. At its best: now to 2032”.
This is a class act, worth every penny and then some and good to go now or cellar carefully for the next 5-10 years. Get into it and tell your mates. This is a beauty.
