Craggy Range Le Sol (French for ‘the soil’) is arguably New Zealand’s finest Syrah. Heck, you won’t catch us arguing otherwise! With a glowing international reputation and a history of critic scores that leaves jaws dropped this is quite simply a must-have for any keen collector. That’s if you can lay your mits on a bottle, global demand massively outstrips supply every release!
This is the 2023 Craggy Range Le Sol release and it’s absolutely no surprise to see it get near a perfect score straight out of the blocks…
95/100 & Top Rank Award (Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review)
“A contemplative wine with layers and more to come but not a powerhouse; this is accessible now with mid-term cellaring potential ”
95/100 (Georgina Hindle, Decanter)
“Smoky strawberries with some charred wood, milk chocolate, violets and dried earth. Gorgeous scents. This is calm and collected, beautifully delineated with such a push from start to finish of ripe red fruits with mouthwatering, almost zesty acidity, that leaves a buzz on the tongue. A long lasting finish dotted with some toasted spice, almost minty, with cinnamon and some vanilla. Pure and refined, really makes you smile. Excellent.”
95/100 (Cam Douglas MS)
“There’s layers of spice and toasty wood, earth and violets, then a youthful synergy.
Le Sol is produced using Syrah fruit from a heritage clone brought to New Zealand in the 1840s, aged for 14 months in 38% new oak. This is a stunner. Cellar for 10-25 years from vintage.
