It’s a little over twenty years since Craggy Range opened their doors and set about becoming one of Hawke’s Bay and Aotearoa’s most iconic, premium producers. It takes a certain somebody with the nouse, skills (and cash!) to get that off the ground. Not just a somebody, a Peabody.

US Billionaires Terry and Mary Peabody launched the now world famous Craggy Range back in 1998. The state of the art winery sits at the foot of the spectacular Te Mata Peak there in Hawke’s Bay along with their multi-award winning winery restaurant and no expense spared luxury winery lodge and cottage accommodation.

The Craggy Range owner was once known as the “Golden Garbo” for turning other people’s garbage/rubbish into his multi billion dollar fortune through his Aussie waste management business. We can promise you that’ll be the only sentence you’ll ever read with the words ‘rubbish’ and ‘Craggy range’ in it. Craggy boast a world class line-up of wines that deserves every bit of praise they get.

Te Kahu is produced from top notch fruit from their vineyard in the world famous Gimblett Gravels sub region of Hawke’s Bay. A blend of 49% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec – she’s all red fruits, cedar and spice that winemaker Julian says quite simply is “A wine that could only come up from the Gimblett Gravels.”

Scoring 95/100 with one of the world’s leading critics, James Suckling, who said “Aromas of blackberries, smoke, dried flowers, nuts and a touch of earth. The palate is medium-bodied with nerve, precise tannins that add precision, focused dark fruit and a savory note in the finish. This is very balanced and should evolve nicely.”

Drink now or cellar for up to 15 years from vintage.
