Formerly known as Church Road’s Reserve range they’ve given the wines a slick black label and slapped the word “Grand” in the name.
So that’s the marketing job done, what about the wine? Are they actually Grand? Are they what! These are sheer world class wines, up there with the best you’ll find in Hawke’s Bay. That’s why you’ll only find Church Road wines under this label released in great vintages from low-cropping vineyard blocks (to ensure more concentrated, ripe flavours), hand-harvested and produced using small batch, traditional techniques.
This is the first release under the series to use fruit from Central Otago. And so what else could it be other than a Pinot Noir? And what else would it be other than damn good!
Deliciously lush, dark fruited Central Pinot crafted by an absolute master winemaker Chris Scott of Church Road. All from single estate fruit in the Lowburn subregion and aged 16 months in French oak.
This is what Chris had to say about their latest addition to the Church Road family. “Central Otago Pinot Noir is the newest member of the Grand Reserve family, brought to fruition when an unexpected opportunity arose in the summer of 2019, to source a small block of exceptional quality Pinot Noir from a vineyard in Lowburn. In a moment of madness, we agreed, and so joined a club of winemakers simultaneously tortured and rewarded by the vagaries of this noble, yet neurotic grape!””
Tuck into this one between now and up to 10 years from vintage.
