Church Road 1 Single Vineyard Redstone Syrah

Already producers of an incredible line up of wines that most would give an arm and a leg for. We’re talking Church Road’s world class TOM, Grand Reserve, McDonald Series, Gwen and Estate range. They thought, heck, there’s always room for 1 more. Introducing, Church Road 1!

Single vineyard wines, hand crafted in small batches and all bottles individually numbered. This is the 2020 vintage Syrah using fruit from their Redstone vineyard in the Bridge Pa triangle. There’s no expense spared here – aged for 3 years in fine grained, seasoned French oak of which 36% was new French oak.

Scoring an incredibly good 95/100 from Master of Wine Bob Campbell, who said “Impressively concentrated syrah with cassis, dark berry/cherry, tar, wood smoke, tobacco, leather and nutty oak flavours. Syrupy wine supported by fine, ripe tannins. Formidable, but a little too ‘blockbuster’ for me.”

It also got a Gold and 95/100 at the International Wine Challenge in London, the judges said “Complex nose with a mix of sweet and savoury spice and fresh and dried berry fruits. The palate is enticing with impressive depth on the middle. The acidity is crisp, and the tannins are present yet very well integrated. Splendid.”

This is benchmark, first class Hawke’s Bay Syrah at its finest – full bodied, fragrant and supple in style. Enjoy this “1” now but it’s crafted with the long term in mind too – cellar up to 15 years from vintage.
