“Düfte Punkt means “aromas point” and this new release aromatic wunderkind definitely lives up to her name, bursting with fresh Spring vitality!”
The Chaffey Bros are brothers-in-law Daniel Chaffey & Theo Engela along with young gun winemaker Huon Fechner. They describe themselves as part perfumiers, part historians and part mad scientists.
“We craft our handmade wines from a number of epic low-yielding vineyards nestled among the pristine Barossa & Eden Valleys in South Australia. Our wine philosophy is ‘New Wave Barossa’… Soil up. Aromatic. Textural. Unadulterated. Our main varietal pillars: Old vine Barossa Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre along with aromatic Germanic white grapes from Eden Valley (Riesling, Kerner, Gewürztraminer).”
From a single vineyard in the Eden Valley the Düfte Punkt blend is what the Chaffey Bros describe as “an aromatic paradigm-shift…a seamless single vineyard field blend of spicy Gewürztraminer, precise Riesling and textural Kerner. Striking tropical and turkish delight aromas introduce a complex palate showing lychees, mandarins, minerality and a lingering powder-puff of florals. The Fechner brothers’ applauded vineyard in the Eden Valley is unique for both its spectacular aromatics and its unique varietal mix. This wines screams food and good times… and now the incredible 2024 release is here!”
Like pretty much everything these lads touch – this is quality and we utterly love it!

“Succulent fruit intensity and fleshy texture, splendidly supported by well-pitched acidity.”
93/100 (Dave Brookes, James Halliday’s Wine Companion)
“A vinous tryptic of riesling, gewürztraminer and kerner from the Fechner vineyard in the Eden Valley. Head-spinning aromatics of bath salts, Turkish delight, those wee boiled lollies, citrus fruits, rose petals, pressed flowers, soft spice, pouch tobacco and jasmine. Some nice palate weight and texture here, dialed in nicely with the stony acidity and maybe just a splash of yellow plum as it fades. I really like these sort of styles of wine. Bonza!
92/100 (Jeni Port, Winepilot.com)
“A co-ferment of Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Kerner, a German grape now making its home in the Eden Valley. While it’s not noted on the wine’s label, this is off-dry. The aromatics are delightful and welcoming in aromas of lychee, passionfruit pulp, lime peel, lime cordial, lemon and spice. The touch of spring wildflowers adds a fresh note.”
91/100 (James Suckling)
“Aromas of rose petals, pomelo, quince, apple blossoms and spices”
91/100 (Andrew Caillard MW)
“Slinky texture with touch of spice on the finish”
If you’re pairing it with a feed take the tip from the Sydney Morning Herald – “Pro tip – The Chaffey Bros. Dufte Punkt (a single-vineyard field blend of gewurztraminer, riesling and kerner) holds its own with fresh, spicy Asian dishes. Bang it on the lazy Susan and let the good times roll.”
