Castano Vertis is the latest exciting addition from one of our favourite Spanish producers! Produced by the Castano family in the south-east of Spain in a region called Yecla.

With its abstract art inspired label it’s sure to get the dinner party talking when you pop a bottle on the table! Then wait ’til you pour a glass – this is a juicy, flavour packed, medium bodied, organic red that’s sure to impress.

Vertis is an organic red blend made up of Garnacha Tintorera (40%), Syrah (35%), Monastrell (20%) and Merlot (5%).

For the wine geeks out there you’ll notice this is Garnacha Tinorera and not your everyday Garnacha grape. So, what’s the difference? Garnacha Tintorera (known as Alicante Bouschet in France) is a grape that’s a little bit different from the rest. Peel back the skin from this grape and you’ll see its got red flesh, unlike other grapes which have clear flesh. This helps to make rich, juicy reds that are dark and inky in colour.

Produced by the Castano family in the south-east of Spain in a region called Yecla. With hot summers, long cold winters and long periods of drought – most grapes wouldn’t stand a chance. But in this environment the likes of the Monastrell grape (which Castano is best known for!) brings its A-game!

Scoring 91/100 with Sam Kim who said “Beautifully fruited and inviting with sweet plum, raspberry, clove and floral aromas, it’s succulent and silky in the mouth delivering supple texture backed by rounded tannins. It’s plump and flavoursome with a long soothing finish. At its best: now to 2028”

Yet again Castano have delivered a ridiculously well priced, superbly drinkable red…and it’s organic!
