There’s nothing quite like Italian Pinot Grigio and if it’s quality Grigio you’re after look for wines from the Alto Adige or Trentino sub regions of Italy.
Located in the far north of Italy, here the Italian alps neighbour the countries of Switzerland and Austria in about one of the most picturesque wine making locations you’ll find anywhere in the world!
Ca’ Montini Pinot Grigio is produced from a single vineyard called “Terre di Valfredda” (which means cold valley) in Trentino and from vines using an ancient pergola trellising system which helps provide canopy to the grapes from the climatic extremes in these parts of the wine world.
Ca’Montini only produce one wine. And this is it. So they throw their everything into it – including the stunning bottle it’s packaged in that’s sure to get the dinner table talking. The embossed label is a nod to their Italian alp backdrop.
The winemaker is Riccardo Cotarella and he’s a Professor of Oenology and Viticulture with 12 years of study and experimentation. He was named Wine Enthusiast Winemaker of the Year and Gambero Rosso Best Italian Winemaker. Wine Spectator called him “one of the best in Italian winemaking” and Robert Parker rated him as “one of the most influential wine personalities in the world”.
As for the wine – it’s every bit the class act you’d expect! A crisp, vibrant, dry white with crunchy acidity with flavours of white peach, green pear and layers of complexity. This is what Italian Pinot Grigio is all about.
