Astrale Chianti Riserva

If you love this world famous style of Italian red then shoot for the stars with Astrale! It literally means ‘of the stars’ in Italian and comes with a handy astrology chart on the front label for all your daily horoscope requirements!

Pronounced “key-an-tee” – strict Italian wine laws mean grapes must be sourced entirely from one of the 8 Chianti regions and must be made with least 75% of the Sangiovese grape (this one has 100%). Deciphering Italian wine labels can be a mission, which is why they have a handy three-tier system of quality. DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) is at the top so you know it’s the flash stuff!

Being labelled Chianti Riserva it’s the up tick in quality from your entry level Chianti showing more complex, flavourful wines. And following strict Chianti wine making laws Riserva wines must be aged for a minimum of 24 months of which at least three months must be aged in the bottle.

2020 was a good year for Chianti and with an additional few years age now in bottle this is drinking like a star! Dark red cherry and berry flavours, dried herbs, vanilla and cinnamon spice.

If it’s Tuscan wine think Tuscan food! Chianti and Chianti Riserva are amazing food wines. The high acidity in the red cuts through richer, fatty dishes nicely and stands up to tomato based foods too – think pizzas and pastas. But don’t be afraid to pair this up with a quality porterhouse steak too!
