Anciano No.10 Rioja Gran Reserva

Good wine come to those who wait. And wait. And wait. Over ten years ago Spanish winemaker Azucena Hervella started the process of making this Anciano No.10 Gran Reserva Rioja label.

He used a classic blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo grapes from high altitude vineyards (300-500m above sea level) from a selection of the oldest bush-trained, low-yielding vines with an average age of over 50 years.

After 36 months aging in American oak barrels it’s now had a further seven years to develop perfectly in the bottle. What you’ve got now is a gorgeously mellow and silky smooth medium bodied red with mature dark fruit flavours, cinnamon, vanilla and spice! As importer and Master of Wine Steve Bennett puts it this is “The Best Value Gran Reserva Rioja Ever in New Zealand” – at full price this should be $39.99 but we’ve cut a deal and landed some volume to get it under the $30 mark. Incredible stuff!
