Back in 1997 it was a rabbit infested block of dirt. Nowadays it’s a single vineyard Bannockburn Pinot that’s popping up regularly on the wine awards circuit. It’s Bald Hills Single Vineyard Pinot Noir and it’s been killing it (as well as the rabbits) over the years and regularly a favourite of ours.
When you’ve got superstar Central Otago winemaker Peter Bartle at the helm you’re in good hands. This guys knows Central Pinot like the back of his hand. Aged for 12 months in French oak barriques, 29% was new (and expensive!).
This scored a whopping 95/100 with Wine Orbit’ Sam Kim who called it “seductive with fleshy texture and fine tannins, wonderfully enhanced by ripe fruit intensity and savoury nuances”.
Dark berry fruits in a silky smooth style – it slips down so, so easily! One glass and you’re in, this is a beauty. Drink now or cellar up to 10 years from vintage.
