Two Rivers. One bloody good wine and winemaker.
Dave Clouston’s your man and he grew up on the banks of the Awatere and Wairau Rivers, thus the name Two Rivers. He’s labelled this one “Tributary”. Probably because he’s a man who loves his rivers and a tributary is a river that flows into a bigger river.
What can we say? The man knows his rivers. And his wine. His crafted this awesome Marlborough Pinot that, for the money, packs a punch.
Scoring 5 Stars with Michael Cooper who said “Offering great value, the delicious 2021 vintage (5*) is a single-vineyard, Southern Valleys red, hand-harvested from 17-year-old vines, matured for 11 months in French oak…it is fragrant, mouthfilling and very finely textured, with concentrated, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, savoury notes, and a lovely balance of complexity and approachability. Full of youthful drive, it’s a ‘seamless’ wine, for drinking now or cellaring.”
When it comes to Pinot Central Otago often takes the headlines, but Marlborough is often where the value’s at. This is a prime example. Slap Central on the label here, you’d be paying $30-35 easily.
