Redmetal Vineyards is the side project of Sileni’s chief winemaker Grant Edmonds. Grant’s got a tonne of experience (30 plus years!) and has worked with the likes of Villa Maria and Esk as well as a stint over in St Emillon, France. Redmetal Vineyards Merlot Cabernet Franc
He’s a bit batty about Merlot so it’s little surprise that one of Redmetal’s favourite styles is his Merlot Cabernet Franc blend. Hand crafted using premium fruit from the free-draining red metal gravels of the Bridge Pa Triangle district of Hawke’s Bay.
He describes this latest 2023 vintage as “Mid ruby in colour, with ripe plum and dark berry flavours along with balanced oak and soft tannins. A blend of 49% Merlot with 48% Cabernet Franc and a touch of Syrah for floral aromatics. Soft tannins in a food friendly style with our trademark drinkability and the structure to cellar for 5-8 years if you so wish.”
