Redmetal Vineyards is the side project of Sileni’s chief winemaker Grant Edmonds. Grant’s got a tonne of experience (30 plus years!) and has worked with the likes of Villa Maria and Esk as well as a stint over in St Emillon, France. Redmetal Vineyards Merlot Cabernet Franc

He’s a bit batty about Merlot so it’s little surprise that one of Redmetal’s favourite styles is his Merlot Cabernet Franc blend. Hand crafted using premium fruit from the free-draining red metal gravels of the Bridge Pa Triangle district of Hawke’s Bay.

He describes this latest 2025vintage as “Medium to dark red/purple in colour with plenty of ripe plum and blackberry flavours with soft tannins and very good length. 17% Cabernet Franc in the blend provides a lot of that purple hue as well as some tannin structure and berry aromatics. Another classic food-friendly style that will reward cellaring for up to 5-8 years.”
