So that’s the marketing job done, what about the wine? Are they actually Grand? Are they what! These are sheer world class wines, up there with the best you’ll find in Hawke’s Bay. That’s why you’ll only find Church Road wines under this label released in exceptional vintages, from low-cropping vineyard blocks (to ensure more concentrated, ripe flavours), hand-harvested and produced using small batch, traditional techniques.

It certainly takes a grand effort to produce these world class reds as winemaker Chris Scott explains. “Blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are one of the most challenging and exciting wine styles to produce. There is a synergy between these two varieties that produces some of the most complete, complex, and satisfying styles of red wine in the world, particularly as the wines age and soften, transforming to reveal true elegance and fragrance along with underlying power. Hawkes Bay was identified by Decanter, as one of the few New World wine regions that could challenge Bordeaux in the production of such wines.”
