Triple 95 Point rated, single vineyard Barossa Valley Shiraz that is luscious, rich, flavour packed and a real voluptuous wine for the money! It is seriously under priced at $24.99…which is why you’ll see it selling for AUD$50 (that’s NZD$60) per bottle across the ditch!

The Schild family have been growing grapes in the southern end of the Barossa Valley since 1952 and this Schild Estate Ben Schild Single Vineyard Shiraz label is named after the founder of Schild Estate.

This is high quality, single vineyard Barossa fruit, aged for 18-24 months in a mix of French, American and Hungarian oak.

We could waffle on all day about how good this is for the money – but when a wine’s boasting three 95+ point scores (including 95/100, a Special Value Award and a 5-Star Winery award with Halliday’s Wine Companion) and a Gold medal at the Global Syrah Masters competition it kind of says it all…

95/100 & Special Value Award (Halliday’s Wine Companion)
“There’s a real creaminess that I like here. It’s not an oak creaminess, more so a plum and blueberry cream with underlying hints of dark-chocolate-dipped cherries, blackforest cake, vanillin oak, panforte, olive tapenade, violets and earth. Luscious and mouth-filling with fine tannins and a velvety flow at the back end. It’s a lovely contemporary Barossa shiraz”.

95/100 (Sam Kim)
“Instantly appealing with blackberry, vanillin oak, clove, game and cocoa aromas, it’s plump and opulent in the mouth with plush texture backed by loads of silky tannins, finishing robust and sturdy with seductive complexity. At its best: now to 2036.”

Gold medal & 96/100 (Vino Masters)
Gold medal (Global Syrah Masters 2024)

94/100 (Ken Gargett, WinePilot)
“For me, this is one of the absolute stars of the range and might just be the best value they offer, especially coming from such a thrilling vintage. Inky purple colour here, this is plush and generous, brimming over with black fruits, plums, dry herbs, cassis and chocolate. There is well-integrated oak evident and the palate offers a move to prunes. A wine of seduction with very silky tannins, with just the merest hint of chalkiness, and impressive length. This is going to excite wine lovers for at least the next eight to twelve years”.

94/100 (Ray Jordan, WinePilot)
“Starts with an engaging aroma of blackberry, dark chocolate and allspice. The sumptuous palate is bright and vibrant with tremendous juicy ripe fruits on display. The slightly chewy chalky tannins sit perfectly while the mix of oak has been precisely chosen. Excellent wine”.

With several years bottle age under its belt this luxurious red is drinking like a dream right now but it’s clearly got the quality and potential to cellar for 15 or so years from vintage. What a treat, enjoy!
